Nurse Practitioner

Description

Provides patient care and (new and recheck visits) and maintains patient documentation.
• Performs and/or updates thorough histories.
• Performs and/or updates thorough physical exam.
• Order/coordinate neurodiagnostic testing.
• Triages patient phone calls: discusses test results and follow up with patients.
• Presents patient to physician in concise, complete, and thorough manner.
• Documents in a timely manner patient visits and notes in a standard format, emphasizing completeness, thoroughness and reflected formulation of diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, patient education and follow-up.

Provides patient/family education and follow up.
• Organizes relevant educational materials from available sources and generates materials for patients/families.
• Presents and reviews materials with patients in a timely, concerned, thorough, understandable, and empathetic manner.
• Follow-ups with patients and their families to assure understanding and retention of material. Provide supplementary materials, as necessary.
• Facilitates family conferences.

Other duties may be assigned, such as inpatient evaluation or other program development.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
• Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Certification and licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Prefer experience in general neurology or internal medicine.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to relate to and engender confidence among patients, staff and physicians.
• Ability and desire to be self-directed in performance of duties and self-educating in areas of deficiency, without need for continuous direct supervision.
• Congenial demeanor with excellent interpersonal communication skills in person and over the telephone.
• Ability to analyze clinical situations, draw appropriate conclusions and institute appropriate measures with good reasoning and problem-solving abilities, and acute intellect.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment without impairment of functions or judgment.
• Physical ability to assist patients through an examination.
• Patient centered, strong customer service orientation.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines and troubleshoot and resolve problems.
• Ability to work independently, exhibit mature judgment and make sound decisions.
• Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost judgment and discretion.
• Proficiency with MS Office and electronic health record.
