UT Regional One Physicians is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Practitioner NP or PA for our Gastroenterology Department. Two or more years of experience as a GI APP is required for this role.

Acts as the primary health care provider performing health care assessments, diagnosis, treatment, preventive health care, instructions and follow-up care to patients in the management of patient and family care following established protocols. Responsible for daily coordination and facilitation of Gastroenterology to provide optimal patient care including: patient education, assisting with procedures, patient assessment and follow-up. • Responsible for daily patient rounds or phone calls to patients for Gastroenterology. • Facilitation of new consults. • Collaborate with physicians and staff to develop and implement a seamless progression of care to meet the patient's needs. • Assist with evaluation and education of hospital staff including: assisting with GI procedures, safety, and patient evaluation and care. Assists with development of new Policies and Procedures related to gastroenterology. • Coordinates and communicates with various departments regarding updates, maintenance and growth of gastroenterology. • Data collection for outcome evaluation, feedback and research.

What you will do

• Functions as the primary health care provider to a group of patients. Obtains a health history and performs a physical exam in order to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan in accordance with established standards, procedures and practices. Requisitions laboratory tests and x-ray exams when appropriate.
• Assesses, treats and manages specific medical illnesses and conditions according to medical regime utilizing established protocols.
• Consults and works collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers in compliance with iRESPECT standards to coordinate and implement activities, promote patient/customer satisfaction and to develop an effective treatment plan. Provides direction to other personnel and reviews medical records to verify that patient's care plan and medical needs are being met.
• Provides referrals for hospitalization, tests, therapies or specialty consultations; makes hospital rounds if indicated.
• Performs duties of registered nurse as required to ensure continuity of patient care.
• Advises and counsels patients and/or others concerning physical and developmental well-being and defines the needs and problems. Identifies community health resources and guides patients and/or significant others in their use.
• Provides for continuity of effective patient and family care by exchanging information and cooperating with other community health/social service agencies, hospitals and health care providers.
• Develops and implements plans for teaching/counseling individuals, families and groups in various settings for the prevention of disease and maintenance of health.
• Assists in the orientation and oversees the supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
• Documents and updates medical and patient charts. Prepares and maintain required records, reports, statistics and files. • Ensures patient care activities are updated and documented according to hospital policies and procedures. • Ensures charges are documented on unit capture sheet and forwarded to proper location/staff for entry into billing system. • Collects and enters patient information into database system. • Ensures all charts are signed by physician before releasing to medical record department.
• Maintains active credentialing by medical staff.
• Performs other duties as required.

• 2 or more years of experience as a GI APP required.
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program Required
• Additional training may be required for specialty areas Required
• Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates Required
• Current unrestricted Tennessee License as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), current Registered Nurse license from either the State of Tennessee (RN) or from a participating compact state that is the applicant's primary state of residence or TN Licensed Physician Assistant Required
• DEA certification Preferred
• Current Certification by the National Certification Corporation (NCC), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or NCCPA Certification Required
• Certificate of Fitness (Prescriptive privileges) in State of Tennessee and BLS Required
