Women's Health Nurse Practitioner - WHNP
Appalachian Mountain Health (AMH) is seeking a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) to join our multidisciplinary team at the Black Mountain clinic, located in Black Mountain.
As the primary women's health clinician at this location, the WHNP will independently provide comprehensive, evidence-based care across the reproductive lifespan. The ideal candidate will be confident practicing with a high degree of clinical autonomy and providing a broad spectrum of women's health services, including gynecologic, reproductive, contraceptive, preventive, prenatal, and perimenopause/menopause care.
This is a highly collaborative position. The WHNP serves as an integral member of a close-knit clinic team while also collaborating with women's health providers located at other clinics across Western North Carolina. AMH's multidisciplinary model includes primary care, behavioral health, psychiatry, pediatrics, dental care, and community-based services, allowing for coordinated care of patients with complex medical and psychosocial needs.
No call, hospital privileges, or inpatient rounding are required.
Daily patient volume is capped at 15 patients.
Clinical Responsibilities:
Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions within the scope of women's and reproductive health, including:
- Routine and preventative gynecologic care
- Cervical cancer screening and management of abnormal screening results
- Contraceptive counseling and management
- STI diagnosis and treatment
- Evaluation and management of abnormal uterine bleeding and menstrual disorders
- Evaluation and treatment of common vulvovaginal conditions
- Breast concerns and appropriate evaluation and referral
- Preconception and reproductive health counseling
- Routine prenatal and postpartum care
- Appropriate consultation, referral, and coordination with primary care and specialty clinicians
Requirements
Requirements:
- Degree from an accredited WHNP program
- Current national certification as a WHNP or eligibility to obtain certification prior to practice
- Current, unrestricted North Carolina RN and APRN license
- CPR certification
- DEA registration or eligibility to obtain
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as critical thinking skills, the ability to handle stressful situations and the capacity to function independently
- High degree of initiative, judgement, discretion and decision making to achieve AMH's mission.
- Required physician collaboration/supervision will be provided in accordance with applicable North Carolina requirements and organizational policy.
Required Competencies:
Candidates should be proficient in, or prepared to demonstrate competency in:
- Pap collection with excellent collection technique
- Nexplanon insertion and removal
- IUD insertion and removal
- Endometrial biopsy
- Vulvar biopsy
- Incision and drainage
- Wet mount microscopy and interpretation
- Routine obstetric/prenatal assessment and management
Desired Skills:
Additional experience or competency in the following is preferred:
- Colposcopy
- Non-stress test
- Lactation counseling and support
- Care of medically and psychosocially complex patient populations
- Trauma-informed and culturally responsive care
- Practice within a community health center, FQHC, rural health, or other underserved setting
- Spanish-language proficiency
Point of care ultrasound training is provided, and the clinic is equipped with ultrasound machine.
