Job Description

Colonial Behavioral Health serves the citizens of James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, and York County.
The agency is currently recruiting for a Psychiatric / MH Nurse Practitioner. ARNP is part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and coordination with community providers.
Colonial Behavioral Health is recruiting for our brand-new 14,000 square foot, state of the art Center for Support and Wellness scheduled to open in Fall 2026. The Center for Support and Wellness will be home to our 23-Hour Crisis Stabilization, Residential Crisis Stabilization Unit and Crisis Services. We are seeking caring, innovative and compassionate professionals committed to utilize their skills to deliver urgent and life-saving behavioral treatment. You will be a part of a supportive multidisciplinary team providing low barrier treatment and developing the programs.
Job Duties
Position responsibility includes performing psychiatric diagnosis and treatment including prescribing and managing medication therapy, obtaining health histories, teaching and recommending other services as necessary. Position has clinical responsibility for monitoring participant treatment and staff delivery of clinical services. The ARNP is responsible for assuring compliance with all local, state and federal laws and relevant contract and procedure requirements associated with the operations within the Medical Services Department.
Work Schedule
Work schedule consists of standard business hours, with periodic on-call responsibilities outside of normal working hours.
Qualifications (EEO)
Skills and Qualifications
- Good knowledge of mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance use disorders as defined by APA-DSM
- Knowledge of theories, principles and practices related to treatment of individuals with serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, developmental disabilities, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
- Ability to evaluate complex mental, emotional, behavioral, and physical needs and to develop individual service plans - medical and psychiatric history, mental status, interpretation of needs, and service planning to include medication management
- Ability to provide case management and to monitor consumer functioning, medication response and compliance
- Ability to prescribe and administer medications under the authority of the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing
- Virginia Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner License required
- Master's degree in Nursing required.
- At least two years of clinical practice as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner required,
- DEA certificate to prescribe controlled substance required
- Registration with the DEA knowledge and skills working with co-occuring MH and Substance use disorders. required
