Position Details

One part time position, 10-12 hours per week, 12 months per year on the Oceanside Campus. Contingent on continued department need. Health Services on the Oceanside campus is open Monday-Thursday 8am-6pm, and Friday 8am-3pm during Fall and Spring semesters and Monday-Thursday 8am-4:30pm and Friday 8am-3pm during break weeks and Summer session. Nurse practitioner hours may be worked during any hours of operation with the option of one (long) or two (shorter) clinic days per week.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800: Employee Residency requires all classified staff, administrators, and temporary/hourly short-term employees to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two hundred (200) road miles from the employee's regularly assigned district worksite.

The District may consider an individual's request to temporarily reside outside the State of California or beyond the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, provided it does not exceed 12 consecutive months.

Compensation

Starting at $52 per hour. Placement above 1 is based on years of experience.

Offer of employment to the person selected for this position is contingent upon 1) successful completion of a pre-placement physical exam at district expense; 2) submission of a current tuberculosis test clearance; 3) proof of eligibility to work in the United States; 4) fingerprint clearance; and 5) approval by the Board of Trustees.

Retired STRS members are not eligible for this position.

Basic Function

Provides professional nursing care, health education and health services to District students; performs comprehensive health and psychiatric assessments, creates differential diagnosis, and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of acute illness, disease, and mental health diagnoses; ensures compliance with state laws and regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provides professional medical and mental health care services utilizing nurse practitioner practice guidelines and protocols; in accordance with standardized procedures, assesses client health by obtaining medical and psychiatric health histories, performing physical and mental health examinations, and initiating appropriate diagnostic and screening tests; evaluates findings and results and prescribes treatment; refers complex cases to a physician as appropriate; performs independent evaluation and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
2. Advises patients on disease prevention and mental health maintenance and provides referrals for cost-effective, appropriate care; orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions; furnishes or administers appropriate medications, therapies, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures as needed; explains nature of diagnosis, risks, and benefits of treatment as well as the consequences if not treated, as well as the side effects of any prescribed treatments.
3. Documents patient medical information, condition, treatment, advice, and referrals in the electronic medical record system; maintains confidential patient medical records.
4. Participates in the formulation of departmental nursing policies and procedures; researches current health trends and maintains current in knowledge/practice.

13. Establish and maintain effective and cohesive working relationships, collaborating with administrative, nursing, and mental health counseling team members.

Education & Experience

To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

Master's degree in nursing AND one year of independent nurse practitioner experience in an ambulatory care setting.

NOTE: For work experience, one "year" is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 12 months, or at least 2,080 hours.

Desirable Qualifications

Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

Licenses & Other Requirements

Current California Board of Registered Nurse Practitioner license with the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Current CPR certification or Basic Life Support for healthcare providers.

Physical Effort

Ability to stand, walk and sit for prolonged periods; use hands repetitively for computer work and operation of standard business equipment; may need to reach with hands and arms; required to lift up to 50 pounds unaided.

Emotional Effort

Working Conditions

The employee works under typical health clinic conditions to include laboratory conditions and handling of blood-borne pathogens and medical waste materials. The employee may be subject to exposure to communicable disease. The noise level is usually quiet.

Telehealth: The employe may at times work remotely in a home-based office performing telehealth duties as assigned. While the majority of shifts will be in person on campus, remote work may be approved by the supervisor on a case-by-case basis according to the needs of the department.
