Pediatric Cardiac ICU - Advanced Practice Provider (NP)Shift Details

• 13-hour Day/Night Rotating Shift Schedule
• Hours: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 7:00 AM
• 39 hours per week
• On-call/callback required
• Holidays and weekends per unit needs
• Scheduling note: Days and nights are avoided in the same week when possible; schedule is approximately 50% days and 50% nights

• 6 to 9 months

Position Overview

• 16-bed acuity-adaptable Pediatric Cardiac Care Center
• Caring for critically ill pediatric congenital cardiac patients
• Advanced Practice Providers serve in a primary covering provider role
• Must be comfortable managing patients with congenital heart disease, including complex anatomy and physiology
• Fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

• Pre- and post-operative pediatric cardiac surgical patients
• High-risk single ventricle physiology
• Open chest management
• Arrhythmia management
• Vasopressor support
• External and internal pacemakers
• VA/VV ECMO
• CRRT
• Adult patients with congenital heart disease requiring medical or post-operative management (occasional)
• PICU boarder patients with a variety of critical care needs (occasional)

Role Characteristics

• Knowledge of ICU procedural skills is essential; however, the APP role is not primarily procedural
• Ideal candidate is adaptable, collaborative, and thrives in a dynamic critical care setting
• Works alongside physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Cardiac ICU as an APP
• Knowledge of complex cardiac anatomy and physiology
• Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner
• Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing
• Active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing
• Current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner
• BLS certification from AHA
• PALS certification from AHA

Preferred Qualifications

• Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification
