Electrophysiology Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

Job Requirements

The Physician's Assistant/Nurse Practitioner will work alongside the Electrophysiologists in both the office and hospital settings to provide comprehensive cardiovascular care. This role focuses on expediting hospital consults and preoperative assessments, evaluating post operative patients in a timely manner, and managing acute and/or chronic arrhythmias. The NP/PA independently evaluates patients, interprets diagnostic studies, and facilitates treatment planning with the physicians.

Outpatient Cardiovascular Care

a. Independently evaluates and manages patients with a wide range of cardiac conditions.

b. Performs comprehensive histories and physical examinations.

c. Interprets and synthesizes diagnostic data including labs, imaging, and EKGs.

d. Assesses the need for cardiac monitoring (external patch or implantable loop recorder)

e. Provides education to patients and families regarding cardiac conditions, procedures, and lifestyle modifications.

f. Manages pre- and post-procedural outpatient care for patients having cardiac procedures including Watchman, pacemaker/AICD implants, and cardiac ablations.

g. Collaborates with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, interventional cardiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

Inpatient Cardiovascular Care

a. Assists with inpatient consults

b. Able to assess need for pacemaker/ICD implants

c. Arrhythmia management

d. Post -op follow up prior to discharge

Work Experience

Education and Experience

1. Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program.

2. Current licensure as a PA in the state of Maryland or Nurse Practitioner through the Maryland Board of Nursing. NPI, DEA, and CDS required

3. Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or AGACNP/AGPCNP

4. Preferred minimum of 2 years of experience in cardiology or electrophysiology specialty

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Comprehensive knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

2. Proficiency in interpreting diagnostic studies including: EKG, echocardiogram, stress tests, and cardiac imaging.

3. Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills.

4. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

5. Excellent communication and patient education skills.

6. Knowledge of pharmacology related to cardiac medications, anticoagulants, and antiarrhythmics.

7. Ability to manage urgent and emergent cardiac situations
