Advanced Practice Provider (APP/PA/NP) Radiation Oncology

Play a pivotal role in advancing cancer care delivery within a highly specialized Radiation Oncology team. This position is integral to ensuring patients receive consistent, high-quality care across every stage of treatment, supporting both clinical excellence and team sustainability.

This Advanced Practice Provider role offers a unique blend of inpatient and outpatient oncology care, allowing you to build enduring patient relationships while contributing to complex, multidisciplinary treatment plans. The Role

This is a hybrid inpatient and outpatient APP role within Radiation Oncology, offering both variety and continuity in clinical practice. You will work closely with multiple physicians and interdisciplinary teams, contributing to care that spans the full patient journey.

This role is well-suited for clinicians who excel in team-based care, demonstrate strong communication skills, and are comfortable working across both structured and evolving clinical scenarios. Oncology experience is highly valued, though strong new graduates with demonstrated readiness and interpersonal strength are encouraged to apply.

In this role, your day-to-day experience includes a dynamic mix of responsibilities:

• Supporting inpatient radiation oncology consults, contributing to patient evaluations and treatment planning
• Managing care in the outpatient clinic setting, including:
  • Seeing patients actively undergoing radiation therapy
  • Conducting post-treatment follow-ups
  • Assessing and managing treatment-related symptoms and side effects
• Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, navigating varied clinical approaches and workflows
• Serving as a key point of communication for patients and families, helping guide them through complex treatment courses
• Delivering care across a broad spectrum of cancer diagnoses, gaining meaningful exposure to oncology practice
• Operating in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment that values clinical judgment and adaptability

Advanced Practice Provider Scope of Practice:

Clinical

• Provides expert evidence-based, top-of-scope care in their clinical practice
• Acts as part of a specialty team, collaborating with other clinicians as appropriate
• Provides health education to patients
• Maintains accurate, timely, and thorough documentation
• Ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory standards

Leadership

• Supports development of best practices and protocols in specialty
• Serves on committees and workgroups to enhance patient care
• Provides education to learners in the clinical space
• Mentors new team members

Administration

• Contributes to clinical quality improvement work
• Participates in professional governance through the APP Council
• Attends team development meetings at local and departmental levels

Professional

• Adheres to ASPIRE values in all professional interactions
• Maintains appropriate licenses, certifications, and specialty training competencies
• Participates in local, state, and national professional organizations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.

Experience: Department and unit specific.

Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $116,123.00 - $171,163.20 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
