Summary

Assists Surgeon(s) in OR with cardiac and thoracic surgeries (under the supervision of a physician).

  • Inpatient Rounding and Outpatient Clinic
  • Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures. Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.
  • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.

Required Credential(s):

  • Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Verified by local Credentialing Office.
  • Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program. Master's degree preferred.

Additional Information

  • Responsible for daily rounding on all in-house patients, as well as outpatient clinic coverage
  • Provides surgical first-assist support, including endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting
  • Performs bedside procedures, including:
    • Chest tube placement
    • Thoracentesis
    • Radial arterial line placement
    • Central line placement
    • Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) removal
  • Call Schedule:
    • 1:3 weekend rounding rotation
    • 1:3 surgical call rotation (from home)
  • Location Requirement:
    • Must reside within 30 minutes of Beacon Kalamazoo Hospital
