Summary
Assists Surgeon(s) in OR with cardiac and thoracic surgeries (under the supervision of a physician).
- Inpatient Rounding and Outpatient Clinic
- Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures. Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.
- Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
Required Credential(s):
- Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Verified by local Credentialing Office.
- Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Education:
- Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program. Master's degree preferred.
Additional Information
- Responsible for daily rounding on all in-house patients, as well as outpatient clinic coverage
- Provides surgical first-assist support, including endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting
- Performs bedside procedures, including:
- Chest tube placement
- Thoracentesis
- Radial arterial line placement
- Central line placement
- Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) removal
- Call Schedule:
- 1:3 weekend rounding rotation
- 1:3 surgical call rotation (from home)
- Location Requirement:
- Must reside within 30 minutes of Beacon Kalamazoo Hospital
