Job Description:
The Division of Immigration Health Services (DIHS) exists within the organizational structure of the Bureau of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Detention and Removal Operations (DRO) under the supervision of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps Officers, civil service staff and contractors comprise of the healthcare professionals working together to provide quality healthcare services. DIHS serves as the medical experts for ICE.
The incumbent serves as a Mid Level Provider-Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant within one of the facilities located across the nation as a member of the healthcare team providing medical care to detainees in ICE custody.
DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Functions independently as a nurse practitioner for a select patient population under general supervision.
Prescribes appropriate therapies within the limits established by the appropriate governing body.
Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients.
Provides healthcare maintenance, diagnostic and therapeutic services, education, and counseling.
Assesses patients’ physical status by performing or requesting screening and appropriate diagnostic tests.
Develops comprehensive patient centered treatment plans.
Plans and/or collaborates on patient care based on detailed knowledge of the specific patient, anticipating physiological and/or psychological problems commonly encountered.
Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings, develops and implements an appropriate plan of care, and evaluates, modifies, and revises the plan at appropriate intervals.
Reviews case files of assigned patients to assess treatment progress, adequacy of record keeping, and fulfillment of guidelines.

Required Skills:
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency.
Current licensure by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territory of the United States.
Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act for the licensing state and/or the state in which one practices nursing.
Comprehensive knowledge of managing non-compliant patients, special needs populations, and patients with significant deficits in coping skills, thereby requiring continuing professional clinical support.
Flexible and able to adapt to sudden changes in schedules and work requirements.
Experience Required:
Maintains current CPR/BLS certification.
Maintains current ACLS certification (optional).
Current nurse and nurse practitioner licensure.
