Beyond the Elusive Cervix and Strategies You’re Itching to Know from an Expert

The gynecologic exam visit involves many competencies, skills and steps including; taking a gynecologic history, conducting a gynecologic exam, excellent communication and expert clinical skills and the ability to formulate a management plan to address preventive goals and health issues pertinent to the individual patient.  This process is complex and individualized to each patient and situation.  Knowledge, practice and experience are required to develop basic competency and with time, expert skills.

Many factors can contribute to challenging pelvic exams. Some of these challenges include: patient anxiety, vulvovaginitis and vulvar pain symptoms interfering with the exam, difficulty visualizing the cervix, history of sexual abuse, vaginismus, menopause, obesity, physical and intellectual challenges, and examining pediatric patients.

There are many approaches and strategies clinicians can implement to deal with these challenges and challenging populations.  In this workshop the expert instructor will share many of her clinical pearls and exam strategies from her over 30 years of practice in women’s health.
