When Medical Care Goes Retail

"I find it amazing that all this “hear say” and territorial infighting winds up in these blogs.  A good NP or PA can provide all of the services at the retail clinic level and MUCH MORE.  We know our limitations and love practicing primary care.  We don’t want to do “everything”.  In Iraq and Afghanistan, PAs are Battalion Surgeons doing all the care for 250 soldiers under them as well as supervising the medics, etc.  Some practice trauma medicine and will bring these skills back to our nations ERs.  Surely an ear ache is not beyond our expertise.  And I’ll ask all the physicians who posted to check the SCIENTIFIC studies.  See how good they say PAs and NPs are.  To the student that posted - please learn before you open your mouth.  A PA who was an EMT or physical therapist for 10 years or a nurse practitioner who was an ICU nurse before for 20 years are generally what the professions are made of.  You are obviously clueless about the experience achieved before NP and PA training for most of us.

The retail clinics are a great idea.  Now, I may not like working for big business, nor may I feel they belong in medicine, but that’s another post for another day.

Let’s all work together for the benefit of getting care out to the people who obviously need it.  Time for change."
