Complicated rules and seeming inconsistencies can lead physician assistants to make billing errors — and avoiding these errors is more important than ever, as the federal government is looking more closely at Medicare billing, with an eye on potential fraud. Michael Powe, vice president of health systems and reimbursement for the American Academy of Physician Assistants, joins host Lisa Dandrea Lenell to talk about how to navigate the red tape and successfully obtain Medicare reimbursement.
 Lisa Dandrea Lenell is a physician assistant and the director of operations for an internal medicine practice in Illinois. She is passionate about bringing physician assistant and nurse practitioner issues into the spotlight, focusing on awareness and understanding of the professions.Mrs. Lenell is a graduate of the Physician Assistant Program at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. She has continued her relationship with Midwestern University, working as adjunct faculty.She has published in the prestigious peer-reviewed medical journal Dermatologic Surgery and has been featured in several professional journals.
Michael Powe is vice president of health services and reimbursement policy for the American Academy of Physician Assistants in Alexandria, Virginia. He has also worked in government affairs for the AAPA. Mr. Powe is an adjunct professor in the division of health sciences at George Washington University in Washington, DC, and lectures extensively about financing, reimbursement and third party insurance coverage.
