Early on in my career as a healthcare provider, I made a promise to myself that I would work hard to give back to my profession. While working in orthopaedic surgery, I observed that healthcare providers, medical students and nursing students struggled with their skills and abilities in evaluating and treating patients with musculoskeletal injuries. I studied a variety of learning methods and attended a wide range of educational programs in an attempt to learn why this occurred. What I learned from this endeavor was that not everyone can spend endless amounts of time pursuing knowledge. Family, commitments, personal time and jobs all occupy a huge part of our lives. Many providers feel pressured when having to make a decision regarding time away from family to attend educational programs.
The reality in today's economy is that people in general are turning to distance learning or on-line education programs to obtain advanced degrees.
